The Illinois River

Illinois River-An Exciting Expedition
(Class IV)

The Illinois has been called the most remote wild river in the lower 48 states. Sundance River Center is proud to be one of only two outfitters permitted to run this extraordinary river. Each spring we offer whitewater rafting trips for people with previous rafting experience and an advanced kayak program for the competent whitewater boater.

The 34.6-mile trip winds through one of the most unusual geological areas in the country. The pristine coniferous forests and deep canyons of blue-green serpentine rock are home to eagles, osprey and black bear. If you want to experience the majesty and adventure of a remote wilderness river, come visit the Illinois with us.

Located in the Kalmiopsis Wilderness Area, this river and its unique flora and fauna remain untouched by civilization. The adventurous river runner will enjoy the remote experience of a 3 or 4-day spring or winter trip on the Illinois. You will be expertly guided through more than 150 rapids, including the legendary Green Wall. During the day witness the beauty of a pristine Northwest wilderness; at night warm yourself by firelight, hearty meals and stories of the day's events.
